The incredible history of The Roses Heritage Inn is evident from the moment you enter. Built in 1905 by Dr. Murphy and his father, Renowned Businessman Jack Murphy (Gambo Jack), to entertain out-of-country business associates, each of the upper rooms has an elegance and timelessness you'd expect from a well-crafted St. John's guest home. Dr. Murphy treated tuberculosis patients with tuberculosis until his passing in 1925. The Roses Cottage was built by the ROSES family in the mid-1800s and was destroyed by the great fire of 1892. The Name carried on.

The Jellybean Heritage Inn is a recognized Heritage building by the City of St.John's. Built by William Whitely III in 1896, the Inventor of the Cod trap. This was his residence in St. John's.

Beautiful building, great location

I always love to visit the Roses when I'm in St John's. It's close to the downtown. It's so cozy and beautiful. The staff are great, and the breakfast is always great. I've been staying here since 2008 and will continue to stay here.

Lovely Stay at the Jellybean Inn

A beautiful heritage property, very centrally located. The rooms were so charming, beautifully appointed, and spotlessly clean. Everyone appreciated the en-suite baths in each room. The kitchen was so well equipped, and the coffee was excellent.

Our entire family stayed here for our daughter’s wedding. Our host, Carole, was so helpful with the extensive planning and organizing. Once we arrived, she welcomed us personally to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. A couple of minor issues were dealt with very promptly. This Inn is ideal for large groups. We would highly recommend the Jellybean Inn.

This is a wonderful place to stay in St. John's, both in and out of season. I have been a guest here several times in the last three years and have become a total fan. The service is excellent, friendly and kindly, the rooms are all beautiful and well-appointed, and the beds are very comfortable. The view from the dining room is spectacular and the food is delicious. A unique and special old Victorian mansion with all the "mod cons". Easy walking distance to downtown. For me, it has the added attraction of being very near Bannerman Park, Government House and the Colonial building, and to be able to visit one of my favourite spots in the city, The Rooms.   As I was there most recently in the off-season (when meals are not served) I was delighted to be able to use the guest kitchen attached to the dining room, where guests can make their own breakfasts while enjoying the view, with a large fridge for storing food, a double sink, a microwave, and a full supply of dishes and cutlery.   Next door to the Inn is a popular café (CM, or Coffee Matters) which serves delicious breakfasts or lunches at reasonable prices—highly recommended any time of year!
